Earlier today there were rumors going around that the GSC Game World team behind S.T.A.L.K.E.R. had disbanded. The rumors began due to a Ukranian news site under the name of UkraNews reporting that the founder of GSC; Sergei Grigorovich, shut down the company earlier today at a meeting with the team. GSC Game World consists of 40 to 50 people.
Then later Dimitiri Bourkosvk tweeted, "Not PR. GSC closed." He's not an employee of GSC although, but this just added more to the growing rumor.
Rock Paper Shotgun then attempted to get a comment from GSC on the whole situation. Resulting in, "Sorry, no comments at this point." With this and everything else appearing today, it wasn't looking good for GSC. RPS shortly after stated that GSC's social media manager was looking for a new job.
Eventually the story was confirmed by someone close to GSC Game World that it had collapsed. Sergey Galenkin blogged about the closure of GSC after discussing with Grigorovich the circumstances. Galenkin wrote, "GSC is closed, a fact confirmed by all. The team is almost completely dissolved, the state has only a few people." Galenkin believes their downfall was due to funding a PC Shooter for mainly a European audience along with a console publishing deal not working out. The google translated page isn't spot on, but it gets the point across.
So yes, this does mean S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is most likely cancelled.
