Over the last couple of weeks you may of heard about several major gaming journalists leaving their job for a variety of reasons, well it's slowly all coming into place now. The company Vox Media has made themselves known from their sports and technology websites, SB Nation and The Verge. Vox is a fast growing publisher in these two areas and is seeking to expand their network of sites within the next few weeks likely.
Snagged the below list from Russ Pits' site. Below you can find several major gaming journalists that have moved on from their previous positions out of the blue to work together and create something much bigger. Each journalist has a long history and is definitely renowned in what they do. Some articles have been appearing by each writer revealing what they plan to create in the upcoming future.
Chris Grant, former EIC at Joystiq.
Brian Crecente, former EIC at Kotaku.
Russ Pitts, former EIC at The Escapist.
Justin McElroy, former Managing Editor at Joystiq.
Russ Frushtick, formerly of MTV.
Griffin McElroy, formerly of Joystiq.
Arthur Gies, formerly of IGN and Joystiq.
Chris Plante, formerly of everywhere.
The above journalists will be writing at the small gaming section of The Verge at Vox Media for the following couple weeks while something much bigger is being created behind the scenes. The Verge writer Joshua Topolsky states, "A multitude of incredible talent just signed on to create what I can only imagine will be the best gaming website in the history of humankind." This is basically what is coming in the future. If you follow sites such as Kotaku, IGN, Joystiq, The Escapist, and other great sites, take some of the best writers from those sites, and make a team from them. Then find a company that will support the hell out of that site and make sure it appears and functions amazingly. Now what do you get from that, you get Vox Media's upcoming project. The Verge has had nothing but good things to say after partnering with Vox Media, so you can definitely expect a pleasurable experience between the group and Vox.
When this site is revealed, you can only imagine how much it'll flourish, even in the first week. If anything, especially, considering each writer already has a large crowd behind them. This will definitely help jump start them, they won't have the amount of views from readers they originally did, but before long they'll have even more. Vox Media and this group of journalists working together will be able to likely revolutionize gaming journalism and bring a whole new feel for you to enjoy. Each member of the team has professionalizes in the categories expected in gaming journalism. More people will likely be hired to this team in the next few months I'm sure. Perhaps in a couple years I'll even be applying.
Until further information is released or the site is revealed, you can follow the @VoxGames Twitter. You'll get to follow articles being posted in the gaming industry and any information on whats to come. Business Insider also gives a nice bit of information behind each writer if you're interested.
