The Last of Us - VGA 2011 World Premiere!

The last couple weeks have brought teasers for the PlayStation 3 exclusive, The Last of Us. An exclusive debut trailer was revealed earlier tonight at the Video Game Awards show and can be seen below. It's being developed by the company Naughty Dog. Naughty Dog is well known for Uncharted, Jak and Daxter, and Crash Bandicoot. The game appears to take place in a post-apocalyptic United States.

The trailer shows a teenage girl and an older man scavenging through what seems to be an abandoned hotel. Although it starts off with a view of trees and the sky, slowing veering into a ruined and torn room with vines growing through the window. The camera moves above a body, moving toward the floor, revealing an arm covered in blood and dripping to a stained puddle of blood. Quickly a teenage girl runs across the puddle out of the room. Probably around 16 if I'd have to guess. Groaning can be heard from the floor above, she looks up and sees dust fall through a building about to collapse. "Oh man," she sprints up the stairs to the next floor, turns the corner, runs to the room, and hides near the doorway. Stands up against the wall, flicks open a knife with a nice slick sound, and peeks into the room. One man strikes another with a plank and knocks him to the floor, soon beating him to death, or it to death. The girl walks in and makes sure he's okay, he acknowledges her, so they definitely know each other. Perhaps father and daughter. She loots the corpse for bullets and they get ready to leave, as unexpected visitors appear. A swift figure runs past a window as the man grabs her and they run to the room's bathroom. Strange beings or infected humans burst into the room, screeching, groaning, wandering the room aimlessly. The man puts the bullet into the chamber of his pistol, an infected bursts into the bathroom, the man grabs it's neck and holds it back. The teen stabs the infected several times as it screeches in pain. The man pops a bullet into the monsters face blowing it off. As they sprint out of the building, the girl begins to narrate in the background. "This is our routine, day and night. All we do is survive, it never lets up. He tells me how these streets were crowded with people just going about their lives. It must of been nice" They breach through the exit doors into a city overgrown by grass, trees, flooding, and cities ruined to great extent.

Naughty Dog has revealed these details about the plot recently:

• Abandoned cities reclaimed by nature. A population decimated by a modern plague. Survivors are killing each other for food, weapons; whatever they can get their hands on. Joel, a brutal survivor, and Ellie, a brave young teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together if they hope to survive their journey across the US.
