Extra Life 2011 Raise money doing what you love!

You may have heard of Extra Life if you're a big gamer as they're a relatively well known charity. Here's a short bit from their page about how they came to be and who they are:

"Extra Life began in 2008 as a way of honoring a young lady named Victoria Enmon. Tori’s battle against acute lymphoblastic leukemia inspired the Sarcastic Gamer Community in a way that is difficult to describe. Members sent in video games and bought gifts to keep Tori’s spirits up despite numerous hospital stays and three bouts with the deadly disease.

Tragically, we lost Tori to cancer in January 2008. Later that year, I asked my partners at Sarcastic Gamer if they would be interested in Extra Life, a 24-hour video game marathon to raise money for the hospital that treated and fought beside Tori. In 2008 and 2009 Extra Life raised a combined $302,000, 100 percent of which went directly to help kids like Tori at my local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital (Texas Children’s Hospital)."

This year gamers will be working together to raise money by playing games 24 hours on October 15th. Extra Life does this annually to raise money for Childrens Miracle Network Hospitals. Extra Life allows you to create a personal profile on their website and try to reach a goal whether individually or as a team with others. You can try to join up with others who are here for the main mission to raise money for children by doing what you love. You don't need to actually play 24 hours straight on October 15th, but you should try to or make up for the time by playing before the 15th or afterward. Which also means, you can start raising money as early as you want, and probably later as well. I'm sure they won't turn down a donation. Extra Life has raised tons of money since 2008 and continues to do so. They have tons of sponsors such as PlayStation Network, G4, Trion Worlds(known for Rift), and especially Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. So why not help a great cause if you have time to game alone or with friends! And if you're not a big gamer or just want to help another way, sponsor someone by donating $1 an hour; adding up to only $24. Donate more or less if you want, everything goes a long way.

"This year’s event begins at 8 a.m. on Oct. 15, 2011. Each participant is asked to raise money by recruiting at least four sponsors to give $1 for each hour of the marathon (that’s just $24 per sponsor).

What makes Extra Life so incredibly easy is you can do it from the comfort of your own home. While many churches and schools do lock-ins for Extra Life, you don’t HAVE to go anywhere. What’s more, you can play any game or games you want to during the event. Xbox 360, PS3, PC, even games on your phone count."
