EA, Nintendo, & Sony mostly stop backing SOPA

Do you want to see this on every page of the internet? I don't think so.

As of recently EA, Nintendo, and Sony Entertainment have decided to pull away from SOPA, quietly that is. In the current document listing all of those supporting SOPA, they've recently disappeared. Considering the after effect GoDaddy had from supporting SOPA, I'm sure these companies realized it's not a great stance either. If you don't remember, GoDaddy supported SOPA, customers got very mad, and basically started to boycott GoDaddy and still are.

Before you jump to conclusions there's a few things you'll also want to know. Unfortunately the Entertainment Software Association is supporting SOPA, why is this important you might ask. Well EA, Nintendo, and Sony are all part of ESA. So while individually they're not supporting SOPA, which is still a great change, they're definitely not neutral or opposing it. More so as said in the beginning of the article, just quieting hiding in the back while everything goes on.

Also, Sony Entertainment has been removed from the SOPA document, although Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Sony Music Entertainment, and Sony Nashville are still supporting SOPA. Various famous musicians are still supporting SOPA as they really take a hurting from piracy, but they don't realize how much it's really going to hurt the world as a whole. So it makes sense for the music side of Sony to be still supporting it, but it'd be nice to think they won't continue to.

Oppose SOPA

It would definitely be nice to see more people opposing SOPA, because to be honest, we can't stand by as this bill passes. Everyone who reads this article needs to stand against SOPA. SOPA will take away several of our freedoms, take away tons of jobs, and even though this is going on in United States, this is going to destroy the internet everywhere. You may not be able to sign a petition or talk to a senator in the US, but make a blog post, tweet against it, get the word out and let others know. Word of mouth is a strong thing and we need all the support we can to make sure this bill doesn't pass. Thank you.

Several groups are taking a stance against SOPA, so join them. Destructoid, Gaia Online, Epic Games, Riot Games, Mojang, Runic Games, Rock Paper Shotgun, MLG, Newgrounds, Lunar Workshop, TIGA, Jagex and more. Contact us to be part of it, individual or company.
