Extra Life Support Me!

Hey guys it's me again. If you don't know what Extra Life is about, jump back over to my article here. Among tons of other gamers who are doing what they love to support a local hospital, I've joined the fight. I'm going to attempt to raise at least $200 for Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children's Medical Center of New York on Long Island. They treat over 230,000 children per year! As I probably won't be able to play for 24 hours straight on October 15th, I'm going to play as much as I can until then and hopefully pass 24 hours to show my commitment. I will try to livestream some of my gaming on Steam and prove I am staying to my word. Anyone is allowed to play with me while I game if you wish. I can only livestream output, so you unfortunately can't hear my incredible voice. But maybe on some downtime I'll run back over it with some commentating. Anyway, if anyone can donate even a dollar to my fund to help me reach my goal I'd be happier than you can imagine! You can donate here to my cause, thank you.

Dark Souls: All Saints Day

"With tense dungeon crawling and fearsome enemy encounters, the seamlessly intertwined world of Dark Souls is full of extreme battles, rewarding challenges, nuanced weaponry and magic, and the flexibility to customize each character to suit any desired play style."

Dark Souls is around the corner coming out October 4th for the Xbox 360 and PS3! Check out the above trailer to get a look at all the insane monsters and bosses to come. If you've played Demon Souls, then you know a lot of dying and frustration is on the way! But in all seriousness, try the game, considering how tough Demon Souls was, I would say this may be the toughest game around right now.

Extra Life 2011 Raise money doing what you love!

You may have heard of Extra Life if you're a big gamer as they're a relatively well known charity. Here's a short bit from their page about how they came to be and who they are:

"Extra Life began in 2008 as a way of honoring a young lady named Victoria Enmon. Tori’s battle against acute lymphoblastic leukemia inspired the Sarcastic Gamer Community in a way that is difficult to describe. Members sent in video games and bought gifts to keep Tori’s spirits up despite numerous hospital stays and three bouts with the deadly disease.

Tragically, we lost Tori to cancer in January 2008. Later that year, I asked my partners at Sarcastic Gamer if they would be interested in Extra Life, a 24-hour video game marathon to raise money for the hospital that treated and fought beside Tori. In 2008 and 2009 Extra Life raised a combined $302,000, 100 percent of which went directly to help kids like Tori at my local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital (Texas Children’s Hospital)."

This year gamers will be working together to raise money by playing games 24 hours on October 15th. Extra Life does this annually to raise money for Childrens Miracle Network Hospitals. Extra Life allows you to create a personal profile on their website and try to reach a goal whether individually or as a team with others. You can try to join up with others who are here for the main mission to raise money for children by doing what you love. You don't need to actually play 24 hours straight on October 15th, but you should try to or make up for the time by playing before the 15th or afterward. Which also means, you can start raising money as early as you want, and probably later as well. I'm sure they won't turn down a donation. Extra Life has raised tons of money since 2008 and continues to do so. They have tons of sponsors such as PlayStation Network, G4, Trion Worlds(known for Rift), and especially Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. So why not help a great cause if you have time to game alone or with friends! And if you're not a big gamer or just want to help another way, sponsor someone by donating $1 an hour; adding up to only $24. Donate more or less if you want, everything goes a long way.

"This year’s event begins at 8 a.m. on Oct. 15, 2011. Each participant is asked to raise money by recruiting at least four sponsors to give $1 for each hour of the marathon (that’s just $24 per sponsor).

What makes Extra Life so incredibly easy is you can do it from the comfort of your own home. While many churches and schools do lock-ins for Extra Life, you don’t HAVE to go anywhere. What’s more, you can play any game or games you want to during the event. Xbox 360, PS3, PC, even games on your phone count."

Max Payne 3 Trailer!

And here it is for you hardcore Max Payne fans! In the trailer you'll notice Max Payne isn't quite the happiest guy at the moment, but I mean why should he be after everything he's gone through. You'll notice he shaves his head near the beginning, so what do you think of his new look? You're now also playing in Sao Paulo, Brazil. If you watch closely you'll see that bullet time is back. It shows up a little after the middle of the video. Considering it says First Trailer, I'm sure more are to come. At the end of the trailer it also says that the trailer is fully in game footage, so if you see it, you're bound to see it again when you play it for yourself. If you're a little behind on the games before Max Payne 3 you can check out this article GameSpy wrote. It sums up what happened in Max Payne 1 and 2. So if you haven't played the previous games, yes that link will have extreme spoilers. Max Payne 3 will be coming to Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in March 2012! So how do you think Rockstar will do with Remedy's franchise?

Metal Slug: Real Life Edition

I'm sure if you're a Metal Slug like myself you'll appreciate this one. I bet if you're even just a gamer you'll get a kick out of this! What if life was like this? Three dimensional is over rated.

I'd thank Game Informer and Geeks Are Sexy for the epic video.

Feed the King Flash Game

Feed the King is a flash game you can find over on Kongregate and I believe Newgrounds. Currently on Kongregate the daily badge is an easy badge to just earn 100 coins across all games. I finished this after like four or so games so I'm sure you could pull it off. Definitely worth checking out, if you don't have a Kongregate account, should make one here. Nice community and fun grabbing badges, which are like achievements. Well anyway, Feed the King is relatively fun and similar to other building games where you continuously place block on top of block as high as you can go. And if you miss three you're often out. The controls are simple enough as it keeps moving back and forth and you just have to keep pressing the downward arrow key to drop the cake onto the platter and then future pieces of cake. I haven't reached the end if there is an end, but I know you can definitely get a huge tower of cake if you're skilled enough. After losing your hearts the king is then flung into the air eating away at each piece of cake as you move him left and right. Also, placing the cake in certain areas on top of each other debates the points you'll get from each placement. You'll see various ways in the tips below, but for example, daringly avoiding bombs and placing cake right on the edge of another piece as shown in the screenshot. Well otherwise, go hit up Kongregate, make an account or play the game for the daily. Always nice to advance in level on Kongregate and make a name. I'm Snakester95 there, feel free to add me and I'll add you as a friend!

Some tips I picked up from MochiGames:
  • Stack cakes close to a bomb without triggering it to score a Danger Bonus.
  • Triggering an explosion next to guards startles them out of their sleep!
  • A cake won't collide with bombs or power-ups until it has been dropped and touches the cake below.
  • To score an Accuracy bonus, stack a cake that has the smallest base on a cake that has the smallest top.
  • Drop the cakes on cake edges to earn Edge Bonuses; they will help you get a better score.
  • If you think the next edge bonus will be too difficult to achieve, don't worry about it, your multiplier won't reset if you don't constantly string bonuses.
  • Dropping a cake beside the stack, dropping a rotten cake on the stack, and hitting a bomb, will all make you lose your multiplier.
  • Every time the player performs a bonus (Edge bonus, Danger Bonus, or Accuracy Bonus), the score multiplier increases and the next bonus will be worth more.
  • By playing it safe and keeping cakes you stack centered, you increase your chances of making it higher. Remember, going higher doesn't necessarily mean getting a higher score.
  • The more cakes you stack, the heavier the platter that the cook is carrying becomes!
  • Pay attention to the warnings that show up at the top of the screen, they warn you about incoming bombs and power-ups!
  • If a bird shows up on screen but you drop your cake before the bird has landed, you'll scare it away.
  • The cook accidentally added rotten cakes to the pile of cakes, luckily they're only there in classic mode!
  • Rotten cakes are bad, don't drop them on the stack! Drop them on the side or you'll lose some points. Besides, the king probably wouldn't enjoy eating them.
  • When taking control of the king, each cake you eat in a row increases your multiplier until you miss one.
  • If you think collecting coins for the shop takes too long, you could always buy them with mochi coins!
  • Sometimes, being patient is the best way to reach your goal.
